The Lyons Return with "Wire"

Paulo ricardo

Jas Leveret, frontman of The Lyons, opens up about his break from music and his breakup with wife, Celine.

Across 4 releases over ten years, the London based Lyons has posed a number of increasingly existential questions: "Why do fools always have something to say?", "Can you forgive your people?", "Can't you see the light's in your hands?", "How do you fight for love?". On Dec. 5, the group finally released their first EP since 2019 - Wire - a contender for the great Breakup Album of the Year.

Their breakthrough album, "Loyalty" dropped back in 2014, while frontman Jas Leveret was dating Cee Dubois. The Lyons have outlived their marriage. We sat down with Jas Leveret to discuss his notable absense from the music scene and the end of his relationship with the honourary member of the Lyons.

So, Jas, where have you been? Why now? Tell us about "Wire".

Been working on this album in deep seclusion, obviously! The lads and I finally decided to get together and get some recording done. Like most art, it flows quite naturally - and it's a way to express what I'm probably not quite good at over interviews. I recommend listening to the album in deep seclusion, too, cos you'll get kicked into the same emotional dread that I've been sorting through.

Tell us about this emotional dread. Assuming it's part of your breakup?

Cee and I decided to end our marriage but we are still very much each other's biggest supporters. I only want the best for her.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Was that your inspiraton behind this album?

When you love something sometimes you just have to let it go for whatever reason. That was a big motivating factor behind this album for sure.
